This background provides a common framework for knowing the difference between what should work and what REALLY works, while operating within our mission statement of affordable and reliable communications.

The Express Radio founder and president is Gene Fruehling, 65, a forty year veteran of the land mobile industry .His career at Motorola's Communications Sector started as an electronics engineer, becoming manager of development programs in all major product areas including mobile, portable, base station and paging. After nearly four years in Tokyo, Japan as manager of Motorola's Japanese Communications Operations, he returned to the U.S. as Vice-President and Operations Manager of a Low-Tier Strategic Business Unit which became the Radius Division, focusing on low-priced products and the distribution channels necessary to support them. In July 1987, recognizing the potential, Mr. Fruehling left Motorola to form Express Radio to actively participate in this exciting marketing revolution.
Tom Herbert, 51, General Manager, has spent more than 25 years providing communications solutions for customers in the United States and abroad for Motorola. Tom’s background in wireless communications includes customers such as Federal Express, United Parcel Service, Norfolk Southern Railroad, Union Pacific Railroad, White House Communications Agency, U.S. Department of Defense, Policia Nacional de Colombia, and Caribineros de Chile.
Dave Knabb, 60, Director of Marketing, also held various marketing positions including Manager of Marketing for paging products during his 11 years at Motorola's Communications Sector. He was responsible for defining the MX300 portable and the BPR200 series pagers. In 1979, he joined Group 3hree (the 18th largest industrial advertising company in the country) as Copywriter and Account Executive. He started his own public relations firm in 1986 where he remained until joining Express Radio.
Steve Flaugher, 54, Director of Technology, held various engineering and manufacturing positions during his 12 years at Motorola. He was responsible for manufacturing engineering of the MX300 portable radio and for introduction of the STX trunked portable. Prior to joining Express Radio, he was part of the start up team at Noise Cancellation Technology as Director of Engineering.
